Navy Gingham Pouch
Completed July 2026
This navy blue and white crochet gingham zippered clutch features a classic checkered design. It is the perfect size for an everyday wristlet.
I think I may finally have this gingham fixation out of my system! For this project, I used linked double crochet stitches scaled down to just three stitches wide by one row high to create the micro-check pattern. To give the clutch instant structure without any stretch, I crocheted the body directly over a canvas zippered pouch. I started by creating a foundation single crochet chain that wrapped around the top, stitched it to the canvas liner with a needle and thread, and worked downward from there.
Working this pattern in the round created a slight slant to the grid—a great "live and learn" design detail that comes with round construction! I also experimented with Tunisian crochet to make a rigid wristlet strap, but while it didn't turn out as stiff as I hoped, I still love the finished look paired with my "choose joy" dragonfly tag.
